Spring is here and Summer is around the corner. What does that usually mean for the bay area? Fog! Pigeon point is one of the many spots along the PCH near the Bay Area that I like to photograph frequently. We had clear cloudless skies when we arrived in the afternoon and I was really hoping for a colorful sunset. But Alas! As the afternoon moved on the marine layer was fast approaching. Eventually the beach where we were was ungulfed in the fog and I snapped this photo just before that happened. The fog almost reaching the lighthouse with the last moments of sunlight trying to break through.
We had other pleasant surprises on this day besides the fog. Pigeon point lighthouse is a popular spot for viewing the Grey Whale migration as they swim thousands of miles up north for the summer and this day was no exception. Within the hour or so we spent at the lighthouse we saw 5 swimming within 100 yards from us. If you get the chance to swing by the area, the whales are expected to pass by this area until mid-May.
