2012 Annular Eclipse in SF

20120520_annular_eclipse_sequence As soon as I heard about a solar eclipse was going to be visible from the bay area I immediately thought about grabbing a long lens to photograph this!   I rented a Canon 100-400mm L IS and a Canon 1.4 teleconverter from borrowlenses.com which gave me an effective 400 x 1.4 = 560mm.  I stacked my 10-stop filter and circular polarizer which I thought resulted in some pretty cool glare from the sun.

We didn't quite get the Ring of Fire visible from San Francisco but towards the peak of the eclipse I wanted to switch to a wider lens so I could include the Golden Gate Bridge...The shadow of the moon wasn't visible for this image but I'm pretty happy with the result anyway.
